About this event

Elements of Truth: BEFORE RECONCILIATION

Immerse yourself in an experiential virtual learning journey to deepen your understanding of how settler Canadians can embrace their responsibility to spark change and build right relations with Indigenous peoples. Truth before reconciliation is an opportunity for all of us to learn from our past, to begin to step into our fuller potential in the present, and to re-imagine a better way forward together.

When we deepen our understanding of our true colonial history and the impacts on Indigenous peoples, and allow our hearts to be impacted by this truth, there is potential for us to embrace our responsibility to make change, to stand with Indigenous peoples, support Indigenous Peoples’ rights, create systems that are just and equal, and shift our current relations in ways that benefit the land, the water, and all life forms for generations to come.

About the Workshop

Elements of Truth: Before Reconciliation is a 10-hour workshop series rooted in Indigenous values. Guided by reciprocity, inclusion, curiosity, and humility, our learning journey unfolds over four weeks, with four powerful 2.5-hour sessions. Get ready for an informative, interactive, and impactful experience!

Earth: Uncover the impacts of colonization and gain a deeper understanding of our shared history.

Air: Expand your perspectives by embracing diversity and acknowledging implicit bias and injustice.

Fire: Reflect on social positioning, acknowledge power dynamics, and embrace the potential for change.

Water: Raise consciousness about the impacts of micro-aggressions and develop transformative communication skills.

While we encourage attendance in all four workshops (Earth, Air, Fire, and Water), Elements of Truth is designed to welcome both new and returning participants to any individual session. When registering for Elements of Truth, options are available to attend the series (all four workshops) or to register for each session individually.

What to Expect

Our approach is often described as medicine for relationships. Through engaging activities, we awaken our imagination and expand our thinking. Drawing from Indigenous ways of learning, we embrace experiential and holistic approaches, weaving observation, action, reflection, relationships, and storytelling.

We utilize the arts to foster flexible thinking, breaking free from old relationship patterns. Our workshops model learning environments that foster emotional safety, empowering us to disrupt unconscious social norms with courage and authenticity.

Frequently asked questions

How much is registration?

The Elements of Truth series (all four workshops) is $475 CAD plus Eventbrite service fees. Taken separately, each workshop is $125 CAD plus Eventbrite service fees. Please reach out to us if you are registering a group of five or more people.

Who should attend Elements of Truth?

Non-Indigenous settlers who have a desire to cultivate meaningful and respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples but are unsure of where to start. We also welcome those who may already be learning—reconciliation is a journey, not a destination.

Do I have to register for all four workshops?

While attending the full series is encouraged, you can choose to register for any individual workshop that resonates with you.

What can I expect from the workshops?

Each workshop explores different aspects of our shared history and sets a different part of the foundation for non-Indigenous people to understand what truth before reconciliation looks and feels like. We acknowledge that everyone is at a different place in their learning and our goal is to meet you

How should I prepare?

We'll provide optional pre-and post-workshop reading materials via email. The Zoom link will be emailed to you a few days before each time we gather online.

What are the technology requirements?

The interactive style of our workshops is best experienced using a video-capable device, such as a laptop, tablet or desktop computer. We also recommend using headphones.
